Hotel Schloss Montabaur
Montabaur, Germany, Germany
Hotel Schloss Montabaur is a Baroque castle-turned-four-star hotel and conference center perched on a hill above Montabaur in Germany's Westerwald region, first documented in 959 as "Castellum Humbacense" and fortified by Trier's archbishops from 1018.
Rebuilt after destruction in 1212 and reshaped between 1687–1709 by Elector Johann Hugo von Orsbeck into its current horseshoe layout with an outer bailey, main building, courtyard, and wings, it served as a residence for Trier's prince-electors until 1802 before becoming an administrative seat.
Purchased in 1969 by the Deutsche Genossenschaftskasse and owned since 1981 by the Akademie Deutscher Genossenschaften, it now offers nearly 300 rooms across six guesthouses, a spa, fitness area, event spaces, and modern facilities blending historical charm with contemporary use.
