Hubertusburg
Wermsdorf, Germany, Germany
Hubertusburg is a grand Baroque palace in Wermsdorf, Saxony, Germany, built from 1721 to 1724 by Augustus the Strong, Elector of Saxony and King of Poland, as a lavish hunting lodge to replace an earlier Renaissance structure on the site.
Designed by court architect Johann Christoph von Naumann, the triple-wing complex featured a central avant-corps, mansard roofs, and an integrated Catholic chapel reflecting Augustus's conversion, connected by new roads to Dresden, Meissen, and Leipzig.
Plundered by Prussian troops in 1761 during the Seven Years' War in retaliation for damages elsewhere, it hosted the 1763 peace treaties between Saxony, Prussia, and Austria that ended the conflict, though much of its splendor was lost and later altered.
