Verified Hülsede Water Castle

Hülsede, Germany, Germany

Hülsede Water Castle, also known as Wasserschloss Hülsede, is a moated Renaissance manor house in the village of Hülsede in Lower Saxony, Germany, set in the valley between the Deister and Süntel hills.

It was built as a four‑winged water castle between 1529 and 1548 for Claus von Rottorp, later extended up to about 1600, and stands as a typical example of early Weser‑Renaissance architecture with surrounding water fortifications.

The estate originally belonged to the von Rottorp family and later passed to the Mengersen family, who held it as a fief for over three centuries before turning it into their private property in 1908, while the family still owns the site today.

The castle and its farm buildings are listed monuments and have been extensively restored over recent decades, preserving much of their sixteenth‑century structure and now serving as a venue for events, weddings, and tourism within a picturesque rural setting.
