Hünenburg
Bad Pyrmont, Germany, Germany
Hünenburg is a medieval hill‑castle ruin located on the Königsberg near Bad Pyrmont in Lower Saxony, Germany, standing in the town’s Oesdorf district.
It dates back to the High Middle Ages and originally consisted of a stone residential tower and thick defensive walls, with the tower’s surviving masonry still showing arrow slits, an elevated entrance, and traces of an interior hearth.
Archaeological digs around 1910 uncovered everyday objects such as knives, horseshoes, and sickles, assigning the site to the period roughly between 1100 and the late 12th century.
The visible ruins were partially reconstructed in a romanticized medieval style based on the original foundations, and today the site is a small, atmospheric historic landmark that visitors can reach by foot from nearby tracks and parking along Oesbergstraße.
