Hunterdon County Arboretum in Clinton Township, New Jersey, began as a commercial nursery in 1953 established by George Bloomer, who planted both native and exotic trees including pines, oaks, and ornamental species.

In 1974, the property was acquired by the Hunterdon County Park Department, expanding into a public arboretum that now covers 73 acres and features six walking trails totaling about two miles.

The arboretum includes formal gardens such as an herb garden, rock garden, cut flower garden, and butterfly garden, while its wetlands support native plants like skunk cabbage and cattails and diverse wildlife including woodpeckers and deer. A notable historic feature is an 1893 two-story gazebo relocated from a nearby farm, which is the oldest original structure of its kind in New Jersey.

The arboretum serves as a scenic space for environmental education, recreation, and conservation, showing year-round seasonal displays and providing a living collection that reflects the area's rich natural and horticultural heritage.
