im Stadtpark Botanical Garden
Wilhelmshaven, Germany, Germany
im Stadtpark Botanical Garden in Wilhelmshaven, also known as Botanischer Garten Wilhelmshaven, is a municipal botanical garden located at Neuengrodener Weg 26 in the city's Stadtpark and holds the distinction of being Germany's smallest botanical garden, covering just 6,000 square meters.
Originally established in 1947 as a school garden on the bombed-out premises of the Grodenschule school after World War II, the garden was closed in 2015 and reopened at its current new location in Stadtpark on June 9, 2017. The garden features diverse garden forms including a herb spiral, a "forbidden garden," a scent and sensory garden, a rock garden, a wildflower meadow, and numerous flower bands, while its major collection represents typical northern German plants from environments like heath, dunes, forests, meadows, and ponds.
Admission is free, the garden is accessible and barrier-free with disabled parking and bicycle parking directly at the main entrance, and it is generally open year-round except on Christmas Eve, Christmas days, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day, though it closes during storms, snow, or ice. Dogs are not permitted, children must accompany adults, and the garden welcomes nature lovers seeking peaceful, relaxing walks through its thematically arranged borders and comfortable seating areas.
