Jamrud Fort, also known as Fatehgarh Fort, is a historic military fort located beside Bab-e-Khyber at the eastern entrance to the Khyber Pass from Peshawar in Khyber District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.

It was built around 1836 by Hari Singh Nalwa, the commander-in-chief of the Sikh Khalsa Army, under Maharaja Ranjit Singh, to mark the western frontier of the Sikh Empire and commemorate Sikh victories over tribal forces; the fort’s name Fatehgarh means “city of victory”.

The fort is constructed on a commanding mound with extremely thick walls (about 10 feet) and stone reinforcement, using mud-brick and local Kanjoor stone that may have been reused from earlier Gandhara Buddhist structures, and it has three defensive layers with an outer wall, a moat-like space, and an inner core that includes a chamber associated with Hari Singh Nalwa, who died after being wounded in battle near Jamrud in 1837.

Later, the British used the fort as a key frontier outpost during the Second Afghan War and the Tirah campaign, adding brickwork, barracks, and regimental facilities, and after Pakistan’s independence the fort remained under military control and is now a valued heritage site that is maintained by the Pakistan Army, though access is generally restricted to visitors.
