Verified Kanan Nasori Castle

Iran, Iran

Kanan Nasori Castle (more accurately called Nasori or Nasuri Castle) is a historic 19th‑century fort and palace complex in the port area of Siraf in Kangan County, Bushehr Province, on Iran’s southern coast facing the Persian Gulf.

It was ordered by Sheikh Jabbar Nasuri, the local ruler of Siraf and Kangan, around 1802 and gradually built and completed over many years by his descendants, with the design and construction entrusted to the architect Ali Asghar Shirazi. The castle is often referred to as Sheikh Castle or Sheikh Jabbar Nasuri Mansion, and it stands on a hill overlooking the sea, with its main façade and large wooden side facing the Persian Gulf, making it both a defensive stronghold and a scenic residence.

The structure is built mainly of large stones with mortar made of mud and plaster, and it includes inner and outer courtyards, a royal section, stables, storage areas, and decorative elements such as plaster paintings with plant motifs, angels, birds, and a series of painted scenes depicting stories from the Shahnameh on the west porch ledges.
