Karlsburg Castle - Karlsruhe
Karlsruhe, Germany, Germany
Karlsburg Castle is a historic landmark in the Durlach district of Karlsruhe, Germany.
Originally expanded from a medieval hunting lodge in 1565 by Margrave Charles II as his residence after moving from Pforzheim, it marked Durlach's prosperous era until French troops destroyed it in the 1689 Palatinate War of Succession.
Rebuilt in 1698 but left unfinished, the castle saw the court relocate to newly founded Karlsruhe in 1715, after which it served as a dower residence, military barracks, and later administrative spaces.
Today, only the Prinzessinnenbau wing survives, housing the Pfinzgau Museum, Carpathian-German Museum, registry office, and other cultural uses following renovations from 1973 to 1988.
