Kastell Holten / Holtener Burg
Oberhausen, Germany, Germany
Kastell Holten, also known as Holtener Burg, in Oberhausen, Germany, is a former water castle first mentioned in 1188 and rebuilt in 1307 by Count Engelbert II of the Mark as a border fortress amid swamps against the County of Cleves.
Only the preserved east wing from a 16th-century main castle renewal survives after multiple destructions, including possibly by the Bishop of Osnabrück around 1147. Today this historic structure serves as the event and training venue for the Bürger-Schützen-Gilde Holten 1308 e.V., hosting gatherings in its large guild hall within a picturesque park setting.
