Verified Khan Palace (Lankaran Museum of History and Ethnography)

Lankaran, Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan

Khan Palace, officially known as the Lankaran Museum of History and Regional Studies (sometimes called Lankaran Museum of History and Ethnography), is a historic three-story manor house in the centre of Lankaran on the Caspian coast of Azerbaijan, built in 1913 for Mir Ahmed (Mirakhmad) Khan, a descendant of the Lankaran khans, by French architects using red brick and local white stone.

It was the first multi‑store building in what had been a largely single‑storey city, and its design deliberately blends European urban architecture with traditional Azerbaijani decorative details, giving it a distinctive early‑20th‑century appearance that contrasts with the surrounding older buildings.

Inside, the palace has been converted into a museum that displays exhibits on the history, culture, and daily life of the Lankaran region, including artifacts from the Khanate period, traditional weapons such as swords and shields, household items, ceramics, textiles, coins, and books, as well as materials illustrating the region’s role in trade, agriculture, and the local economy.
