Khanate of Kharan
Kharan, Pakistan
The Khanate of Kharan was a princely state in the region of present-day Balochistan, Pakistan, established as a semi-independent state by the Nausherwani tribe in the late 17th century. It gained full independence from the Khanate of Kalat in 1940. The state had a history of local tribal conflicts, alliances, and shifting allegiances amidst bigger empires like the British and regional powers.
On March 17, 1948, Kharan acceded to Pakistan and later became part of the Baluchistan States Union in 1952, before the princely state system was dissolved in 1955. Its rulers, known as Nawabs, governed the area until integration into Pakistan's provincial system. The history of Kharan reflects the complex tribal, political, and colonial dynamics of Balochistan's past.
