Kloster Zscheiplitz is a historic Benedictine nunnery near Freyburg in Germany's Unstrut Valley, originating as a Slavic settlement from the 7th-9th centuries before becoming Count Palatine Friedrich of Saxony's Weissenburg residence around 1041.
Donated to the church by his widow Adelheid in 1085 and established as a monastery in 1089 with St. Martin as patron, its Romanesque church endures as the region's oldest, surviving Reformation dissolution in the 1540s to become a knight's manor under Saxony's nobility.
Post-1945 land reforms led to private restoration efforts by a citizens' group during GDR times, now featuring a museum on 1,000 years of monastic, noble, and rural life amid vineyards and trails.
