Kronstad Hovedgård
Bergen, Norway, Norway
Kronstad Hovedgård in Bergen, Norway, originated as the medieval farm Hunsstadir established around the 1100s, originally belonging to the Cistercian Nonneseter convent with extensive arable lands near the ancient royal estate Alrekstad. Sold to the Antonius brothers in 1480 for care services and early Lutheran preaching, it was secularized in 1528 to Danish noble Vincens Lunge, becoming part of his vast holdings before passing through owners like shipowner Jørgen Thormøhlen. Merchant Joachim Friele purchased it in 1840, commissioning town surveyor Ole Peter Riis Høegh in 1844 to remodel the circa-1781 structure into its current Empire-style neoclassical form inspired by French château Margaux—reflected on his wine labels—with a temple-fronted portico, protected since 1927 and now hosting veteran events, weddings, and galleries.
