Trongsa Dzong
Trongsa, Trongsa District, Bhutan
Trongsa Dzong is the largest and one of the most historically important fortresses in Bhutan, located on a ridge overlooking the town of Trongsa in central Bhutan.
Built in 1648 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, it played a key role in unifying the country and controlling trade and travel routes between eastern and western Bhutan. The dzong serves as both a religious center and an administrative headquarters, and it is closely linked to Bhutan’s monarchy, as the crown prince traditionally serves as the governor of Trongsa before becoming king.
With its impressive architecture, intricate temples, and commanding views of the surrounding valleys, Trongsa Dzong is one of Bhutan’s most remarkable cultural and historical landmarks.
