Philippines , Philippines
The La Union Botanical and Zoological Garden is a 10- to 20-hectare sanctuary and outdoor museum located in Barangay Cadaclan, San Fernando City, La Union, Philippines, about 8 kilometers east of the city proper on hilly terrain. Established on March 2, 1996, it is the first scientific botanical garden and center for laboratory research in Northern Luzon in the Philippines, originally built to serve as a venue for environmental education, scientific research, biodiversity conservation, and aesthetic recreation. The garden showcases a collection of beautiful plants from tropical, sub-tropical, and desert climates around the world, including many indigenous and endemic species to the Philippines, with all plants labeled in both local and scientific names along with their places of origin. It features multiple themed landscaped garden environments including Shade Garden, Sunken Garden, Evergreen Garden, Arid Paradise, Fragrance Garden, Fernery, and Palmery, plus a nursery where young plants are grown before replanting. Beyond its botanical collections, the garden houses an aviary and mini zoo with native animals including monkeys, doves, eagles, wild pigeons, orioles, rabbits, parrots, guinea pigs, and other creatures donated by the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources to teach youth about wildlife preservation.
