The Makiling Botanic Gardens are located on the northeastern slopes of Mount Makiling in Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines, within the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) College of Forestry and Natural Resources campus. Established in September 1965, the 300-hectare garden is part of the Mount Makiling Forest Reserve and serves as a research and educational facility dedicated to preserving and showcasing diverse tropical plant species, particularly endemic and rare plants from the Philippines. The gardens contain an impressive collection of 1,060 genera and over 2 million varieties representing 209 families of flowering plants and ferns, including orchids, ferns, palms, bamboos, and tropical rainforest trees. Visitors can explore themed sections such as the Orchidarium, Fernarium, Medicinal Plants Garden, Arboretum, and Nursery through scenic concrete trails and nature paths that wind past mini waterfalls, gurgling creeks, and natural swimming pools. The facility includes a pavilion with a diorama exhibit of Philippine wildlife, designated picnic areas, a playground, and camping grounds, making it suitable for recreation, picnics, and family outings.
