Verified Lakewold Gardens

Lakewood, Washington, United States

Lakewold Gardens in Lakewood, Washington, is a historic 10-acre garden estate known for its blend of formal and natural garden settings.

The property dates back to 1908 and was originally developed as a private retreat, with gardens gaining local fame early on. In 1925, it was renamed "Lakewold," a Middle English term meaning "lake-woods," by Major Everett Griggs and his wife Grace. Later, in 1938, it was sold to George Corydon and Eulalie Wagner, who, with renowned landscape architect Thomas Church, expanded and refined the gardens, combining formal boxwood parterres, rock gardens, and woodland areas with views of Gravelly Lake and Mount Rainier.
