Landschaftspark Spiegelsberge
Halberstadt, Germany, Germany
Landschaftspark Spiegelsberge is one of Germany's earliest landscape gardens, created around 1761 by enlightened Cathedral Dean Ernst Ludwig Christoph Spiegel zum Diesenberg south of Halberstadt, inspired by Wörlitz Park and opened to the public in 1771.
Spanning meadows, dense woods, winding paths, and grottos across the Spiegelsberge ridge, it features preserved 18th-century follies like the Belvedere tower, Spiegel's mausoleum, a hermitage, and the 1782 Jagdschloss hunting lodge with its Guinness-listed 144,000-liter giant wine barrel offering panoramic city views.
Transferred to the city in 1904, restored post-WWII despite Halberstadt's devastation, and part of Saxony-Anhalt's Garden Dreams network, it invites circular hikes, zoo visits, picnics, and events amid diverse flora, fauna, and cultural landmarks like the Bismarck Tower.
