Laneburg
Löhnberg, Germany, Germany
Laneburg, also known as Laneburg Castle ruins, is a 13th-century fortress in Löhnberg, a municipality in Hesse's Limburg-Weilburg district, Germany, first documented in 1324 as a Nassau family stronghold.
Originally built shortly before that time near the former town of Heimau (now Löhnberg's core), it was converted into a Renaissance palace in the late 16th century to serve as a brief residence for Nassau-Dillenburg before a devastating fire gutted it in 1900.
Restoration work in 2000 uncovered a notable coin hoard called the "Schatz von der Laneburg," making it significant for numismatists, and today the ruins stand as a key historical site alongside Löhnberg's Protestant castle church from 1738.
