Langen is a town of about 39,000 residents in Hesse's Offenbach district, Germany, located between Frankfurt am Main and Darmstadt in the Frankfurt Rhein-Main metropolitan area.

First documented in 834 as Langungon during the Carolingian era, it historically bordered the Dreieich Royal Hunting Forest managed by the Lords of Hagen-Münzenberg and features a preserved Old Town (Altstadt) with timber-frame houses protected by a specific preservation order.

Today, it hosts key institutions like Deutsche Flugsicherung (German air traffic control headquarters) and the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut (federal serum and vaccine authority), alongside attractions such as the annual Ebbelwoi-Fest apple wine festival and Langener Waldsee lake.

Dreieich, a nearby municipality formed in 1977 from five districts including Dreieichenhain with its medieval castle ruins, lies just southwest of Langen in the same Offenbach district. Named after the ancient 9th-century Wildbann Dreieich hunting preserve, it spans 53 square kilometers with around 43,500 inhabitants from 117 nations and offers rural charm amid the urban Rhein-Main region.
