Langenstein Castle
Orsingen-Nenzingen, Germany, Germany
Langenstein Castle, or Schloss Langenstein, is a medieval-origin fortress in Orsingen-Nenzingen, Germany, in the Hegau region near Lake Constance, featuring a 12th-century bergfried tower built by Reichenau Abbey on a Jurassic limestone rock.
Expanded into a Renaissance manor between 1570 and 1605 by the von Raitenau family around a square tower, with later Baroque additions like a chapel and landscape park, it passed through noble lines including von Welsperg before Grand Duke Ludwig of Baden acquired it in 1826 amid debts.
Owned by the Douglas family since 1906 as their main residence, it houses a carnival museum, golf club, and welcomes visitors while preserving its historic ensemble of Ludwigshof, Reichenauer Zehntkeller, and scenic surroundings.
