Lauterbach Castle, located in the village of Lauterbach near Neukirchen and Zwickau in Saxony, Germany, stands on a gently sloping hillside overlooking the surrounding area.

Built in 1884 in the Neo-Renaissance style as the manor house of the Lauterbach estate, it replaced an older structure and became a symbol of the estate’s prosperity. Between 1907 and 1909, the castle underwent a striking interior transformation in the Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) style, designed by the celebrated Belgian architect Henry van de Velde, whose work elevated the building to one of the region’s most notable cultural monuments.

The property belonged to the Esche family, prominent textile industrialists from Chemnitz, until 1945, and several of van de Velde’s original interiors and furnishings remain largely preserved. Surrounded by a small landscaped park with historic trees and garden features dating from its construction period, the castle is part of the Henry van de Velde cultural route and has been privately owned since 2004, with ongoing restoration work to protect its artistic and architectural heritage.
