Levanto is a historic town in Liguria, Italy, known for its roots dating back to Roman times when it was called Ceula.

Over the centuries, it developed into an important medieval port under the control of powerful families and later the Republic of Genoa. Levanto features a well-preserved medieval center with narrow alleys and pastel-colored buildings, centered around landmarks like the Church of Sant’Andrea with its striking Gothic façade and the 12th-century Levanto Castle, built for defense against pirates.

The town was once surrounded by defensive walls, and the remaining towers and loggias highlight its strategic importance. Levanto’s scenic location at the mouth of a river valley flanked by olive-covered hills creates a lush natural backdrop.
