Lipporner Schanze
Lipporn, Germany, Germany
Lipporner Schanze is a ruined spur castle near Lipporn in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, perched at 375 meters above sea level on a mountain spur overlooking the Taunus region.
Dating possibly to the 9th century based on archaeological findings—with no written records—it likely served as an early seat for the noble Lipporn family, ancestors of the House of Nassau, before fading by the 11th century.
Today, only remnants of its rectangular ring wall survive, standing 0.5 to 1.2 meters high with a 65 by 110 meter interior area and a northern gate, set amid forests about 700 meters from the separate Alte Burg site.
