The Lofoten Islands in Nordland, Norway, lie entirely above the Arctic Circle and form an archipelago of rugged, craggy mountains rising directly from the sea.

This 250-kilometer-long stretch includes several main islands such as Austvågøya, Gimsøya, Vestvågøya, Flakstadøya, and Moskenesøya, linked by bridges and ferry routes. Known for its dramatic natural beauty, Lofoten features steep peaks, deep fjords, sheltered bays, white sandy beaches, and pristine wilderness. The islands support a population of about 24,000 and have been inhabited since at least 1120.

They also host significant bird cliffs and marine life, including sightings of sea eagles and whales. Despite the high latitude with long, harsh winters, the islands experience surprisingly mild temperatures thanks to the Gulf Stream.
