Lombardia Castle (Castello di Lombardia) is the most famous landmark of Enna, Sicily, and one of the largest medieval castles in Italy.

Perched on a hill nearly 1,000 meters above sea level, the fortress occupies a highly strategic position that has been used for defense since ancient times, with origins tracing back to a settlement of the Sicani people long before the medieval castle was built. The castle was rebuilt and expanded under Arab, Norman, and later Hohenstaufen rulers.

In the 13th century, Emperor Frederick II strengthened it by adding numerous towers and fortifications, turning it into one of Sicily’s most important strongholds and a place where the Parliament of the Kingdom of Sicily met. Today, although only part of the original structure survives, the castle’s massive walls and towers still dominate the landscape.
