Loretello Castle is a remarkably well-preserved medieval hilltop fortress located near Arcevia in Italy’s Marche region.

Its origins date back to 1072, when it was established by monks from the Fonte Avellana monastery, making it one of the oldest castles in the area. Over the centuries, the castle passed under the control of Arcevia and was expanded during the 14th and 15th centuries. Strong defensive walls, watchtowers, fortified gates, and walkable ramparts helped protect the settlement from frequent attacks.

When its military role ended, a distinctive three-arched access bridge was added in the 18th century. Today, Loretello Castle is admired for its authentic medieval character, intact fortifications, and beautiful hilltop setting overlooking the Marche countryside. Its preserved walls, towers, and historic village make it one of the most atmospheric and historically significant fortified settlements in the region.
