MacArthur Park in Los Angeles, California, was originally known as Westlake Park and dates back to the late 19th century when it was developed as a 35-acre recreation area with an artificial lake fed by an underground spring.

Designed to be a picturesque public space, it became highly desirable and was once among the city's most elegant neighborhoods. The park was renamed in 1942 after General Douglas MacArthur, featuring a statue of him and reflecting its significance during World War II. Over the decades, the park experienced significant changes, including being bisected by Wilshire Boulevard in 1934, which altered its landscape and ecosystem.

It has been a site of popular cultural events, community gatherings, and artistic expression, particularly within the Latino community, but also faced challenges with crime and urban decline in the late 20th century. Recent redevelopment efforts have focused on revitalizing the park through increased security, community engagement, and restoration of amenities like paddle boats and fountains, aiming to restore its role as a vibrant urban oasis and cultural landmark.​
