Maienfels Castle
Wüstenrot, Germany, Germany
Maienfels Castle, perched on a rocky spur above the Brettach Valley in Wüstenrot-Maienfels, Germany, is a medieval hilltop fortress constructed between 1230 and 1250, first documented in 1302 as the seat of the Lords of Neudeck who later took the name von Maienfels.
Surrounded by a largely intact ring wall of Staufer-era ashlars, it features a main building, tower, defensive walkway, and medieval drop chute, and endured destruction in 1441 during a feud before rebuilding by noble families like the Schott von Schottenstein.
Now a private residence of the Gemmingen-Hornberg family since the 1990s via a preservation foundation, it hosts concerts, exhibitions, weddings, and limited courtyard visits while blending historic charm with modern use.
