Maisenburg
Germany, Germany
Maisenburg, also known as Ruine Maisenburg, is a medieval spur castle ruin overlooking the Lautertal valley near Hayingen-Maisenburg in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
Built in the 12th century by the Knights of Maisenburg and first documented in 1268, it features a striking shield wall of Staufer-era buckelquader masonry, rock-cut neck ditch, ring wall remnants, and traces of a palas and cistern, with the outer bailey converted into a private residence after abandonment around 1820.
Today, the privately owned site welcomes visitors via a short 700-meter hike from free parking, offering dramatic views amid the Swabian Alb's plateau landscape following 1990s restorations.
