Malaspina Castel Osilo
Osilo, Italy, Italy
Malaspina Castle in Osilo is a medieval fortress perched on Mount Tuffudesu in northern Sardinia, overlooking the surrounding countryside from one of the highest points in the area.
Although its exact construction date is uncertain, it is generally believed to have been built between the 12th and 13th centuries by the powerful Malaspina family, who used it to control important routes across the region. The castle played a significant role in the struggles between the Judicate of Arborea and the Aragonese Crown, changing hands several times before gradually declining in importance during the 15th century.
Today, parts of the fortress, including a surviving tower and sections of its walls, have been restored and preserved. The site offers spectacular views over northern Sardinia and remains one of the most notable medieval landmarks in the Sassari area, reflecting the island’s rich and turbulent history.
