Malconsiglio Castle is a large medieval fortress in the hilltop town of Miglionico, in the Basilicata region of southern Italy.

Originally built between the 8th and 9th centuries and expanded over time, it overlooks the Bradano Valley and became the focal point around which the town developed. The castle is best known for its connection to the famous Conspiracy of the Barons in 1485, when several noblemen met there to plot against King Ferdinand I of Aragon.

This event gave the castle its name, “Malconsiglio,” meaning “Bad Counsel.” Featuring multiple towers, defensive walls, and large historic halls, the castle evolved from a military stronghold into a noble residence. Today, it is one of Basilicata’s most important historic monuments, attracting visitors with its rich history, impressive architecture, and panoramic setting.
