Mannheim gGmbH Park
Mannheim, Germany, Germany
The "Mannheim gGmbH Park" actually refers to the Luisenpark, a municipal park in Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, which is operated by Stadtpark Mannheim gemeinnützige GmbH (the non-profit Stadtpark Mannheim GmbH).
This 42-hectare park is Mannheim's largest park, located on the left bank of the Neckar river, and was designed by renowned Frankfurt garden artist Franz Heinrich Siesmayer between 1892 and 1894, named after Grand Duchess Luise von Baden, daughter of Emperor Wilhelm I. The park consists of two parts: the lower Luisenpark (Unterer Luisenpark), which is the oldest section conserved as a historic garden and accessible free of charge, and the upper Luisenpark (Oberer Luisenpark), which features various attractions including a greenhouse, arboretum, Chinese garden with Europe's largest original Chinese tea house, gondoletta boats, and numerous children's facilities.
The Luisenpark hosted the first Bundesgartenschau (Federal Garden Show) in Mannheim in 1975, which was the most successful to date with approximately 8 million visitors, and it will host the Federal Horticultural Show again in 2026. The park is open 365 days a year from 9 a.m., attracts 1.2 million visitors annually from across Germany, and is known as one of Europe's most beautiful park grounds, featuring animal encounters with alpacas, farm animals, pelicans, Humboldt penguins, and flamingos, plus themed gardens, a sound oasis, a sensory garden, and art installations.
