Marselisborg Castle
Aarhus, Denmark, Denmark
Marselisborg Castle serves as the Danish royal family's summer and Christmas residence in Aarhus, Denmark, built between 1899 and 1902 as a wedding gift from the people to then-Prince Christian (later King Christian X) and Princess Alexandrine.
Designed by architect Hack Kampmann in Neo-Baroque style on the former Marselisborg estate lands donated by Aarhus, it features white walls, a black-glazed tile roof, and a charming English-style park with ponds, rose gardens, herb plots, and sculptures by Prince Henrik.
The palace grounds open to the public year-round except during royal stays, when the Life Guards perform a daily changing of the guard ceremony at noon, while King Frederik X formally took ownership in March 2026. Overlooking Aarhus Bay amid Marselisborg Memorial Park, it remains a private royal property symbolizing national affection for the monarchy.
