Matzturm Osterfeld
Osterfeld, Germany, Germany
Matzturm, known locally as the "Matzturm" or old bergfried, is a medieval tower in Osterfeld, Germany, part of the historic Burg Osterfeld castle ruins.
Originating from a Slavic ringwall fort in the 6th century, the site was expanded into a stone lowland castle in the 11th-12th centuries by the Burgraves of Neuenburg and first documented in 1198.
The sturdy round tower, along with surrounding walls and earthworks, remains well-preserved today, though the castle grounds now serve as a school and have limited public access.
