Medard is a small rural municipality in Germany's Rhineland-Palatinate within the Kusel district, part of the Verbandsgemeinde Lauterecken along the Glan Valley, with Frankish origins possibly tied to post-Roman settlement and first documented as part of the Free Imperial Domain gifted to Verdun's bishops.

By the 11th century, it ranked among key Glan centers alongside Meisenheim and Lauterecken under Veldenz counts before Reformation in 1537 and ravages of the Thirty Years' War, later shifting through Zweibrücken-Palatinate rule, French annexation, Bavarian Rheinkreis, and Prussian administration until modern Rhineland-Palatinate formation.

Featuring a 13th-century church tower with 16th-century nave, crow-stepped gables, and trails near the Bärenhof inn, the village of around 400 preserves its agricultural heritage amid forested hills.
