Mesker Park Zoo and Botanic Garden in Evansville, Indiana, opened in 1928 and is known as Indiana's first zoo, located on 45 scenic acres featuring rolling hills and naturalistic animal habitats.

It was founded by local business leaders, including Gilmore M. Haynie, with early popular attractions like the "Monkey Ship" exhibit introduced in 1933 housing various primates. Over time, the zoo has expanded to include major exhibits such as Amazonia, a $15 million tropical rainforest habitat added in 2008 with over 150 animals, and Lemur Forest which opened in 1999.

The African Rift exhibit features animals like giraffes and zebras in expansive open areas. The zoo is heavily involved in conservation breeding programs, including efforts to protect the critically endangered Mexican gray wolf and eastern hellbender salamander. It serves as an educational venue with a Discovery Center focusing on endangered species and offers amenities like the Engelbrecht Carousel and bird aviary.
