Midway State Park
Bemus Point, New York, USA, United States
Midway State Park is a historic family-friendly amusement park located on the shores of Chautauqua Lake in Bemus Point, New York, that was originally established in 1898 by the Jamestown & Lake Erie Railway as a picnic ground and trolley park.
Today it stands as the 15th-oldest continually operating amusement park in the United States and the fifth-oldest remaining trolley park of the thirteen still operating nationwide, making it an officially designated Path Through History Site.
The 44-acre park features 18 child-oriented rides including a vintage carousel from 1948, the Little Dipper roller coaster (one of the oldest known of its kind), go-karts, miniature golf, a climbing wall, arcade games, and water games, with about one-third of attractions designed specifically for smaller children.
Originally offering a baseball field, dance pavilion, dining hall, sandy beach, tennis courts, and bathhouses to encourage weekend trolley rides, the park was purchased by Martin "Red" Walsh in 1951 and operated by his family until it was transferred to the New York State Parks system after the 2006 season.
The park was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2009 and includes historic buildings like the 1915 Lakeside Pavilion, a concession building that now houses both refreshment stands and a Carousel Museum, and offers beautiful picnic groves with pavilions for group and family outings.
