Minnetrista in Muncie, Indiana, is a 40-acre cultural museum and garden site located on a bluff along the northern edge of the White River, originally home to the Ball family, famous for inventing the Ball Mason jar.

The Ball family moved their glass manufacturing business to Muncie in the 1880s and built several family homes side by side on this land, many of which still stand today. The name Minnetrista combines the Sioux word “mna” meaning water and the English word “tryst,” meaning a gathering place, reflecting its location by the White River and its role as a community hub.

The property reopened as a cultural center in 1988, transforming into a museum and public meeting place featuring extensive gardens, historic homes, interactive exhibits, educational programs, and community events. The gardens include formal and ornamental spaces inspired by the Ball family’s legacy, featuring rose gardens, orchards, and culinary herb gardens, while exhibits highlight the history and contributions of the Ball family and the region.

Minnetrista offers a year-round destination for art, history, nature, and family-friendly activities, maintaining its status as an inclusive gathering place.
