Miramare Castle
Italy, Italy
Miramare Castle is a stunning 19th-century seaside castle overlooking the Gulf of Trieste in northeastern Italy.
Built between 1856 and 1860 for Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian of Habsburg and his wife, Charlotte of Belgium, the castle combines Romantic, Gothic Revival, and Renaissance-inspired architecture with spectacular sea views. Surrounded by a vast 22-hectare park filled with exotic plants collected from around the world, it was designed as a luxurious private residence and retreat.
Today, Miramare is one of Italy’s most famous historic landmarks, admired for its elegant interiors, beautiful gardens, and its connection to the dramatic story of Maximilian, who later became Emperor of Mexico.
