The Momine Khatun Mausoleum, located in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan, is one of the finest masterpieces of medieval Azerbaijani architecture. Built in 1186 by the renowned architect Ajami Nakhchivani, the ten-sided monument was commissioned by Jahan Pahlavan in memory of his mother, Momine Khatun, and is the most significant surviving structure of the historic Atabeg architectural complex. The mausoleum is famous for its elegant geometric decorations, intricate Kufic inscriptions, and distinctive tower-like design, which originally reached a height of about 34 meters. Considered a symbol of Nakhchivan’s rich cultural heritage, it stands as an outstanding example of Islamic architecture and continues to attract visitors interested in the history, art, and craftsmanship of the medieval Caucasus.
