Moritzburg
Germany, Germany
Moritzburg Castle is a stunning Baroque palace on a small artificial island in a lake near Dresden in Saxony, Germany, originally constructed as a Renaissance hunting lodge between 1542 and 1546 for Duke Moritz of Saxony.
Elector Augustus the Strong transformed it into a lavish hunting palace from 1723 onward with architect Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann, adding opulent interiors across 200+ rooms, four corner towers, and expansive grounds featuring pheasant enclosures, a miniature harbor, lighthouse, and the nearby Little Pheasant Castle built in 1770.
Famous as the setting for "The Three Feathers" fairy tale illustration and films like "Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella," it houses Europe's largest hunting trophy collection and draws visitors for its fairy-tale charm and cultural exhibits.
