Mount Pisgah Arboretum
Oregon, United States
Mount Pisgah Arboretum in Oregon is a 209-acre nature preserve located within the Howard Buford Recreation Area near Eugene.
It was established in 1973 with a mission to educate about and showcase the native ecosystems of the southern Willamette Valley. Initially, the site was a neglected area covered with invasive plants like blackberries and blackberry, with little public access, which volunteers worked hard to restore by clearing brush, building trails, and developing exhibits.
Over decades, the arboretum evolved from a concept of international tree collections toward a strong focus on native species and habitat conservation, featuring oak savannas, wetlands, and diverse native flora. It now offers about eight miles of all-weather trails, interpretive signage, and educational programs aimed at connecting visitors with nature and promoting environmental stewardship.
The arboretum honors the traditional lands of the Kalapuya people and has developed over time into a key community resource known for its natural beauty, ecological restoration, and outdoor education.
