Mountain Top Arboretum is a nonprofit public garden located in the Catskill Mountains near Tannersville, New York, spread across roughly 200 acres at an elevation of about 2,400 feet on top of the New York City Watershed.

Established in 1977 by Peter and Bonnie Ahrens, it focuses on showcasing and managing native plant communities of the northeastern United States while also maintaining a collection of cold‑hardy native and exotic trees suited to the region’s harsh climate.

A network of trails and boardwalks connects diverse habitats, including plant collections, meadows, wetlands, forest, and Devonian‑era bedrock, making the site a natural sanctuary for horticulture, birding, geology, hiking, and snowshoeing.

The arboretum grounds are open every day from dawn to dusk, with an education center that hosts workshops, guided walks, and programs aimed at connecting visitors with the science and beauty of the Catskills landscape.
