Multan Fort was a massive historic fort built on a high mound in the heart of Multan, one of the oldest cities in Pakistan.

The fort served as a major military and administrative center for centuries and was occupied and expanded by various dynasties, including early Muslim rulers, the Ghaznavids, the Delhi Sultanate, and the Mughals. Known for its impressive defensive walls, numerous bastions, and strategic location, the fort once enclosed palaces, temples, mosques, and other important buildings.

It was a key stronghold of the region until it was heavily damaged during conflicts in the 19th century and largely destroyed by British forces in 1849 during the Second Anglo-Sikh War. Important monuments within the former fort area, including the shrines of Shah Rukn-e-Alam and Bahauddin Zakariya, continue to attract visitors and highlight Multan’s rich cultural and religious heritage.
