Muskau Castle
Germany, Germany
Muskau Castle is a historic palace complex in Bad Muskau, Saxony, Germany, renowned for its Neo-Renaissance main building and surrounding Muskau Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004.
Originating from a medieval moated fortress and early Renaissance structures around 1500, it evolved through Baroque expansions by the von Callenberg family before Prince Hermann von Pückler-Muskau transformed it in the 19th century with designs by Karl Friedrich Schinkel and others, adding a grand ramp, orangery, and landscape gardens blending English and classical styles.
Damaged by fire in 1945 and left in ruins during the Cold War, the New Palace was meticulously reconstructed by 2013, preserving its role as the park's centerpiece with towers, wings, and scenic views over the Neisse River.
