Na 'Aina Kai Botanical Gardens & Sculpture Park
Kilauea, Hawaii, United States
Na ʻĀina Kai Botanical Gardens & Sculpture Park in Kilauea, Hawaii, began in the late 1970s when retirees Joyce and Ed Doty purchased land on Kaua‘i’s north shore.
Over decades, their vision grew from a simple garden to a sprawling 240-acre estate featuring 13 themed gardens, a hardwood plantation, a moss-and-fern-draped canyon, and a pristine beach. The gardens boast over 200 life-size bronze sculptures that blend art with nature, including cultural representations such as a miniature Hawaiian ahupua‘a village and a Navajo compound.
Key features include the Ka‘ula Lagoon with a fountain sculpture and a Japanese-style teahouse, along with a children’s garden designed to engage families. Dedicated to education, conservation, and cultural heritage, the gardens opened to the public in 2000 under a nonprofit foundation and have since become a nationally celebrated destination offering tours, programs, and immersive natural beauty.
