National Museum of Castle Pandone
Venafro, Italy, Italy
The National Museum of Castle Pandone is located in the historic Castello Pandone in Venafro, Molise, Italy.
Originally a medieval fortress owned by the Pandone family, the castle was transformed into an elegant noble residence during the 16th century while retaining much of its historic character. The museum is especially famous for its remarkable Renaissance frescoes commissioned by Count Enrico Pandone between 1522 and 1527.
These paintings depict his prized horses at life size and are considered among the castle’s most unique artistic treasures. Today, the museum also houses a collection of artworks from Molise spanning the early Christian, medieval, Renaissance, and modern periods. Combining impressive architecture, historic frescoes, and regional art collections, Castle Pandone is one of the most important cultural attractions in southern Italy.
