Neudahn Castle
Dahn, Germany, Germany
Neudahn Castle near Dahn in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, is a medieval rock castle ruin on a sandstone outcrop in the Dahner Felsenland, built around 1240 by Bishop Conrad IV of Speyer with construction led by Heinrich Mursel von Kropsburg (later Heinrich von Dahn), predating nearby Grafendahn despite its "New Dahn" name.
Positioned to guard the Wieslauter valley road now followed by the B427 highway, it housed the von Dahn family through wars like the 1438 Four Lords' War and 1525 Peasants' War, with King Henry II of France overnighting there in 1552 amid 16th-century upgrades including twin 24-meter battery towers for cannon defense.
Returned to Speyer bishopric after Ludwig II von Dahn's 1603 death, it served as an Amtmann headquarters until French troops destroyed it in 1689 during the War of the Palatine Succession, now featuring restored walls, towers, and cistern accessible to hikers.
